My desk evolution in the last 10 years

In the last decade, I've seen people working on laptops like they were a turtle or even worst and unfortunately I still see them.

My desk evolution in the last 10 years

Companies that allow smart working should buy the proper tools to employee by law and continuosly audit them to ensure all are working with the expected tools.

I have to admit that I've been a turtle too (nothing bad with turtle but it gives the clear idea of how bad the posture is) but I learned from my errors and since 1 year I invested on something that I had to invest more years ago.

Having the wrong tools influences negatively your work and your healthy in the long term.

Actually I started writing this article just because I found some old picture when I still was beard-less scrolling on my local Immich installation.

So let's start from the beginning (more or less).

That was my very first desk, 15 years ago I was running on a Raspberry pi2 an arcade emulator just for fun.

At that point I was not even thinking to upgrade my desk 😆

The interesting part is that PC (ASUS N550JK) is still alive and doing cool things in 2026.

When Covid19 exploed in 2020 I actually was not ready with a desk so I invented a desk with an ancient table (10cm high so the chair didn't fit at all 🤦)

The fan fact there I was literlly eaten by woodworms, starting from my legs of course since those woodworms used to live exactly under that ancient table. Here I immediately felt the pain of not having the proper tools 🙀

Here instead my brand new "desk". Actually it was a desk but it was not the ideal tool to work everyday from home. I bought it from Amazon for around 60$.
The picture with just the PC was to prepare some online exam (I didn't remember which one it was).

Here instead the upgrade of the same desk I showed before. I had to rely to my ironing board for the PC and the desk for 2 monitors.

Of course I could not iron my clothes 😅

In the meantime the same chair started peeling. Actually I expected it since it was not built with real leather, it was instead fake leather (I solved it covering the base of the chair with a custom cover).

Coming to recent years ( I suppose 1year ago more or less), I decided to switch to the "dark side" of standing desk but I didn't want to pay the right price.

The result of course was eactly the same dummy dinosaur showed in the previous meme.

I bought from an online marketplace a second hand standing desk for around 80$ but it was too light.

Just to clarify, I was not even sure that it was able to correctly lift the 2 monitor + the PC.

And, to make it even more funny, look at this video. In order to go down (or up in the same way) it used to take 1 full minute 🧓🧓🧓

After 3 days I sold it again through italian marketplace "Vinted".

I actually omitted another pain related to that desk which was how long it took me to mount, of course without any kind of instructions.

I also found the original listing on Amazon but even there, no instructions available.

For that reason I decided to be a good guy and thanks to AI I created an interactive web instruction for who bought me the desk.

I'm very proud of it even because the buyer is still sure that the instructions were coming from the producer 😄

As in many other fields (I can give you tons of other examples) I had to learn the lesson and feel the pain during the journey before doing the right choice and at the end I can say that I'm proud of it.

Here we are nowaday with Flexispot kit

  • Desk (only frames) E7 PRO
  • Top desk from local trusted carpenter (same price of Flexispot, better quality)
  • and the best part is.. the trademill

I just cannot live without it.

Hope this will stimulate you to do the right choice or even the next wrong one that will make you nearer to the right one 😄

PS. there are plenty of professional desks producer vendors out there, I chosed Flexispot after a research of a few days and I'm still fine with it. Maybe I'll do a review after a full year of work.
